Sofa
Autumn 2004
I needed a new sofa at home, so thought I'd build one, though I wasn't really ready for going down the route of needing to learn a lot about upholstery . So I made a compromise and build a wooden frame for some cushions to go on.
The frame is made from sapele, and the base is flat, so it can be used as a bed too (it's long enough for me at least). At the time I built it, I didn't think much about what I'd do about the cushions. Then, by chance, a friend was getting rid of an old sofa (the frame had broken), which had cushions I could reuse, and, again by complete chance were pretty much exactly the right size!
The constuction is quite basic, but it can be taken apart and put back together, which has been useful when moving, especially now it has moved countries a couple of times!
